I am currently the Access Manager at the newest hospital in the state of Wisconsin. I am at Saint Clare’s Hospital in Weston, just south of Wausau. It is part of Ministry Health Care so some of you may be more familiar with Saint Joseph’s Hospital in Marshfield or Saint Michael’s in Stevens Point. They are both part of the Ministry family & I have worked at them as well. In August I accepted the challenge of helping to open this new facility, built from the ground up in a field just south of Highway 29. It has been a most interesting metamorphosis! Like a baby growing. Trying to walk, talk & frustrated by not being able to do everything instantly…. when you want! We are an all digital facility and have NO paper medical record. Quite amazing. I have been in healthcare management for 20 years. I wonder how I have kept at it and why. It must be the challenge and variety, not to mention the wonderful people. I have been a WAHAM Board member for many years and belong to NAHAM as well. I think that the “front end” is “where it’s at” and have spent my life trying to make registration a respected position within the hospital. I am excited about our group getting into the electronic world with a web site. This is another great form of networking that WAHAM is noted for. I look forward to meeting colleagues at the meetings next year. |
